The Market Place Theatre and Arts Centre in Armagh has recorded its highest ever ticket sales for its recent Christmas Pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, which ran from November 24 to December 24.
In the six years since the venue opened in 2000, the theatre has recorded steadily increasing attendances at all of its annual Christmas productions and for the first time ever, over 12,000 people attended this year's bumper spectacular.
The Market Place presented 38 schools and public performances of Jack and the Beanstalk, starting way back in November, and running through until Christmas Eve. A total of 12,000 people came to see the production and the total attendance represented 80% of all available tickets sold.
The production was directed by former Ulster Theatre Company Director Michael Poynor with a talented cast of professional actors.
Commenting on the attendance figures, Theatre Director Jill Holmes said, "We hoped that a popular title like Jack and the Beanstalk would prove a hit with audiences but the sheer number of people who came along with their positive feedback, exceeded all of our expectations. We are already in discussions about the Christmas Pantomime for 2007."
