Saturday, January 6 sees the welcome return of Mick Falvin and his band to Kelly's Inn at Garvaghy.
Since his last visit to Kelly's ,Mick has released a new 16-track CD entitled Lucky Break and it's proving very popular for the big man from Drumlish on radio stations up and down the country.
This new album is a series of individual life-stories reflecting Mick's sensitivity and insight into human nature with understanding of its ups and downs, its joys and heartbreaks. It echos his own particularly simple lifestyle, yet effortlessly delivers a dynamic and talented performance.
With his larger than life presence Mick can still convey a very simple story and many tracks on this new release capture the love of his native land and his Irish roots. The clear heartfelt vocals on this CD will have volcanic appeal to Mick's audience. His infectious style and unparalleled mastery will once again charm all who choose the pleasure of listening to these wonderful songs with the special artistic Flavin treatment.
I love Ireland is the first song on the new album and with the title track, Lucky Break, they represent two of the runaway hit singles this album has already yielded. The inclusion of a song about his homeland expresses Mick's pride in being an Irishman, where he has established an indelible presence.
All My Roads Lead Back To You mirrors the role played by his wife Mary and the unconditional support and comfort she has provided throughout two decades, while Mick channelled all his energies into carving out a career in the music industry.
Mick pays tribute to his early musical influences such as Hank Williams, Charley Pride and Buck Owens with his rendition of See You Everywhere, Waltz of the Angels and Rosie Jones. He has also demonstrated his unique interpretive skills and outstanding vocal ability in covering Elvis Presley's hit, His Latest Flame.
Everyone will share the sadness of I knew This Day Would Come and will know a situation where it would fit perfectly, but they will be uplifted by the joyous lyrics of Clap Your Hands and other upbeat songs on this album. Mick has included a range of songs which promote his love of Ireland including Village in County Tyrone, My Wild Rose of Leitrim, and Mayo to San Antone which gives a different slant on an Irish man living away from his native land. People will find something in the album to rekindle some magical period in their lives or some melody that will help them through the moment.
Celebrity endorsement by George Hamilton IV 'The Ambassador of Country Music' confirms the very high esteem in which Mick Flavin is held, in international music circles. George acknowledges in the inlay notes that Mick's star recently shone in the glowing constellation of country artists when he made a landmark appearance at the Grand Ole Opry in September 2006 on two shows, the fulfilment of a lifetime dream for Mick.
Beyond the accolades this is a very special album, musically telling life stories and is beautifully produced by Mick in conjunction with Jonathan Owens at the Spout Studios, Granard, Co. Longford.
