WHILE the County awaits the results of the review into services, David McKee, Chair of the Hospital Campaign, said that the proposed new hospital would not have an Urgent Care and Treatment Centre - it is planned to have a nurse-led minor injuries unit. This is on top of the news revealed by Director of acute services, Margaret Kelly at the Healthcare Committee meeting of Omagh District Council that there would be no coronary care in the new hospital.
It appears that the powers that be will slavishly follow the DBS road signs and ignore patient needs and people's wishes. "People want 24/7 doctor-led emergency care, so why should we have a minor injuries unit? What is the point of having a brand new hospital when it won't have what people want a hospital for?" asks Mr McKee.
"The only way anything will change is by people calling on their elected representatives to take the lead on this issue. The Campaign is actively seeking a meeting with the new Minister for Health, Mr Michael McGimpsey, to put the views of the people to him", added Mr McKee.
