APPROXIMATELY 90 children participated in the annual five-a-side football tournament at Omagh Leisure Complex on Tuesday last, organised in a partnership between Omagh District Council and FOCUS group.

Community representatives and managers were there to cheer on their teams from communities such as CKS, Killycurragh, Strule, Hunter Crescent, Hospital Road, MACCA and Newtownstewart.

Despite several rain showers competition was of a high standard with Strule beating Killycurragh C on penalties in the final of the Primary section.

Special awards were given to Craig Breen, Killycurragh as top goalscorer and for joint junior player of the tournament, along with Niall McCaffrey of Strule.

Meanwhile, in the senior section Hunters Crescent lifted the cup, beating Newtownstewart B, with awards going to Tony McCann, Hunters Crescent as top goalscorer and to Matthew Brown, Newtownstewart for senior player of the tournament.

Chairman of Omagh District Council, Bert Wilson presented the awards to the winners after the tournament, and congratulated everyone on their participation.

A big thank you has been extended to the referees on the day, Wesley Gregg, Grassroots Development Officer, Omagh District Council and Gareth McFarland.

The tournament co-ordinators were Billie-Jo Armstrong, Community Sports Officer Omagh District Council; Gerry McCusker, CKS Community Development Officer Omagh District; Rena Weir, Hospital Road Community Centre Development Officer Omagh District Council and Mark Woods, MACCA Resource Centre representative.
