ACL Division 1 Round-up

St Davog's push table toppers Carmen
Carrickmore 0-17
Aghyaran 1-9

IT'S three wins out of three for table topping Carrickmore but they didn't get matters all their own way at home to an Aghyaran side that were determined to bounce back after an opening day defeat at the hands of Ardboe.

Martin Penrose had a couple of points for the visitors but it was the home side that dominated the majority of the opening half hour with Kevin McNally, Gabriel McCallan and Mark Donnelly all on target but a late Michael Anderson goal left the St.Davogs only 0-9 to 1-3 adrift at the break. McCallan, McNally, Benny Martin and Brendan McCartan all landed points for Carrickmore on the restart but despite only registering once in the third quarter the visitors made a game of it in the closing stages.

Penrose, Anthony Devine and Aidan Connolly all had points to leave just a score between the teams but Conor Gormley's third point of the afternoon helped clinch victory.

Errigal hit stride

Eglish 1-5
Errigal Ciaran 1-17

EGLISH made a promising start in their first game at home since their return to senior ranks but once Errigal Ciaran got into their stride there was only ever going to be one winner in a game that saw both sides finish with thirteen men. Adrian O'Donnell and Ronan McRory exchanged points early on with Sean McKillion and Martin McCann but by the time the hosts scored again Errigal had hit 1-7 without reply.

O'Donnell and Damian McDermott scored half a dozen between them with McDermott bagging the goal after twenty two minutes. Enda McGinley, Peter Harte and Mark Loughran all had points for the visitors in the third quarter before Gary Daly scored Eglish's goal.

Enda McGinley and Conal Martin were then sent off after each picked up a second yellow card and they were followed late on by Sean McKillion and Ronan McGinley for straight red card offences as the visitors took the spoils

Lough swamped

Clonoe 3-16
Loughmacrory 0-9

IF their early season form is anything to go by then Clonoe could well prove to be dark horses this season as they made it two straight wins with an emphatic sixteen point success over a Loughmacrory side that are still looking for their first league points since their return to the top flight.

The O'Rahillys played some superb football in the opening half with PJ Lavery, Stephen McNulty, Ryan O'Neill and Patrick Doris all supplying points with Colm Donnelly getting their first goal just before half-time to establish a 1-12 to 0-3 lead.

The Wards, Raymond, Ronan and Ciaran as well as Emmett Donaghy all featured on the scoreboard after the break for the visitors but by that stage the issue was already beyond doubt with Colm Doris scoring Clonoe's second goal from the penalty spot in the 45th minute after Shane Coney was fouled. A minute from time Gary Coney joined the attack to fire past keeper Donal Ward to complete a satisfactory afternoon for the home side.

Level pegging

Donaghmore 0-10
Kildress 0-10

DONAGHMORE held a four point lead going into the final quarter at home to Kildress on Sunday but in the end the St.Patricks had to make do with a share of the spoils after the Wolfe Tones staged a late revival. Niall McCaul and Martin Grimes had first half points for their respective sides as Donaghmore led by the minimum margin at the end of a low scoring period, 0-4 to 0-3. McCaul, Patrick Doherty and Shane Mulgrew added to Donaghmore's tally on the restart and they should have been further in front as they kicked a number of wides when they were on top.

Kildress saw their chance in the closing ten minutes and they hit back to come into the game via points from Des Treacy, Fran Loughran and Damian Kelly as they got back on level terms. Padraig Gallagher then edged Donaghmore in front again but Kildress weren't to be denied with Loughran bursting through to fire over a late equaliser

Ardboe nick it

Ardboe 0-12
Omagh 1-8

OMAGH put up a sterling performance at the Loughshore on Sunday but unfortunately they had nothing to show for their efforts as Ardboe came through with the minimum to spare to maintain their perfect start to the new campaign. Points from Kyle Coney, Frank McGuigan and Tommy McGuigan had the Rossas in front early on but the St.Endas enjoyed a good last ten minutes of the half that yielded scores for Jason McAnula, Dean O'Neill and defender Hugh Gallagher to leave them only 0-6 to 0-5 adrift.

Frank McGuigan and McAnula were both having good afternoons for their respective sides in the scoring stakes and both landed a further trio of points each before the latter scored the only goal of the game twelve minutes from time. That give Omagh a slender advantage but Ardboe hit back with Coney sending over the equaliser before McGuigan snatched a late winner.

McCullagh on fire

Dromore 1-17
Galbally 0-10

IT may be early in the season but Dromore are already looking like the side to beat this year again after scoring an emphatic ten point win over visiting Galbally on Sunday. The St.Dympnas struck for a second minute goal from Ciaran McCoy to give them a lead that they were never to lose. Ryan McGurk kicked four points for the visitors in the first half but Ryan McMenamin, Colm McCullagh and Eoin McCusker all hit the target at the other end of the field as Dromore enjoyed a healthy nine point lead at the interval.

In the second half Paddy Montague, Colm McCullagh and Eoin McCusker all continued to hit the target for the St.Dympnas and despite efforts from McGurk, Declan Murphy and Eamon McElroy the home side were always comfortably ahead as they made it two wins on the trot.

St Mary's denied

Cookstown 1-10
Killyclogher 1-10

BARRY Hughes rescued a point for Cookstown on Monday night when he converted a last minute '45' at home to Killyclogher. The visitors started the game brightly with Ryan McAleer and Leo Meenan both kicking points before the latter converted a disputed tenth minute penalty.

Barry Mulligan and Damian Meenan exchanged points before John Gilmore punished a mistake in the Killyclogher defence by finishing to an empty net.

Just before the break the Father Rocks were dealt a blow when midfielder Gary Fitzpatrick was sent off for a second yellow card offence. Martin Murray and Raymond Mulgrew traded scores with Leo Meenan and Sean O'Kane before Killyclogher midfielder Ciaran Clarke put the visitors in front three minutes from time. It looked like being the winner until Hughes' late equaliser with Murray missing a chance to win it for Cookstown when he was wide from a free.

Facile for Fianna

Coalisland 2-11
Killyman 1-6

AS expected Coalisland chalked up their second win in a row at the weekend but it was by a lot smaller margin than most people would have forecast against near neighbours Killyman. The St.Marys arrived at Father Campbell Park on the back of two crushing defeats and they appeared to be on their way to another one here after failing to raise an umpire's flag in the opening quarter.

Coalisland had first half points from Paddy McNeice, Gerard Toner and Richard Thornton but Killyman opened their account with a Conor Boyle goal to leave them very much in with a shout at halftime. Boyle added three points in the second period with Eddie Holland and Ciaran Og Hughes also on target but the Fianna always stayed in front with defender Stephen McNally among their points and they never looked back after Toner scored their first goal.

To their credit the visitors battled on but a goal from substitute Paddy Early gave the hosts a flattering eight point winning margin.
