Late goals help Errigal Thirds see off Beragh
Errigal Ciaran Thirds 2-8
Beragh 0-11
THIS regional derby contest provided a pretty decent advert for junior football and hosts Errigal Ciaran Thirds staged a spirited revival to turn things in their favour.
The Valley team lost a man in the opening minutes but bounced back to lead by the odd point in thirteen at the break with Declan Quinn, Rory McCann and Michael Harte lofting over scores.
Martin Rodgers in chief plus Conor Donnelly, Mickey Ward and Martin Nixon put their names on the Beragh segment of the scoreboard as the Red Knights jockeyed their way into a potentially winning position during the second 30 minutes. Errigal, though, served up a double twist in the tale close home with Quinn and Shane Hackett rattling the net with match-clinching majors.
Tones on table top
Drumquin 1-10
Castlederg 0-4
THE Tones made it three wins from as many outings in the league, although Castlederg put up a better show than the bare statistics of the closing scoreline might suggest.
These teams were locked together at the break on four points apiece, Drumquin pulling clear in the final half as Castlederg failed to find their scoring range. That opening 30 minutes contained a brace of Ryan McCallion points for the Tones, with Aidan Lynch and John Gallagher amongst the Castlederg scoreboard contributors.
Drumquin asserted more following the restart with McCallion netting the only goal of the game and the likes of Eamon Teague, Ciaran Colton sand Packie O'Kane tagging on points. The St Eugene's kept trying but were unable to penetrate the Tones defence to any real degree.
Finishing flurry settles it
Glenelly 1-13
Augher 3-12
VISITORS Augher turned this game round in the last seven minutes after Glenelly had carved out a two-point lead towards the business end.
Seamus Harkin was in fine free-taking and general form for the home side, stroking over a number of efforts from various distances as his team kept close tabs on the St Macartan's during an evenly balanced first half.
Conor Hackett got an Augher goal in that opening 30 minutes, helping them reach the break 1-6 to 0-7 in front. Jarlath Daly added a follow-up major for them after the restart but Ronan O'Kane replied in kind for the North Tyrone side.
Harkin hauled Glenelly into the lead but Jamie Donnelly, Finbarr Daly and then Hackett with his second goal gave Augher added impetus towards the finish.
Reality check for Sigersons
Derrytresk 0-9
Strabane 0-8
JOINT table-toppers Strabane met with their first reversal of the season away to a rejuvenated Derrytresk team.
An impressive win over Augher the week previous saw Strabane travel on good terms with themselves but the Fir an Chnoic played some determined football to come from 0-7 to 0-4 down at half-time and win by one.
Warner Mullen scored all seven of Strabane's first half points via a mix of play and placed kicks. John McLaughlin notched a point for Strabane not long after the resumption but that was to be their final score.
Derrytresk responded stoutly with Cathal O'Neill, Paddy O'Neill and Joe McKee hitting the target to edge them in front. The Sigerson's, who lost a man, then fluffed some late chances to get something out of the match.
Emmet's earn first win
Owen Roes 0-9
Brocagh 1-11
A TELLING spell of scores around the middle phase of this tussle propelled Brocagh to a winning position up in Owen Roes.
The home side began brightly enough with Brendan Boggs and Chris Moore amongst their point providers. Ciaran Donnelly got on the scoresheet for Brocagh but the Roes pressed on through a Mark O'Neill point.
Donnelly and Daniel Campbell chipped over scores for the Emmet's before Brian Kolbolm bagged a goal to send them into half-time ahead by a couple of points. Boggs and Sean Og Devine gave Roes renewed optimism with third quarter points but Donnelly and company closed the game out for Brocagh. Owen Roes, meanwhile, continue to search for their first victory of the new campaign.
