County star seals triumph for the Reds
Trillick 1-8
Greencastle 1-5
TRILICK remain one of the early pacesetters after having three points to spare at home to Greencastle on Thursday evening. It was the visitors who shaded the first half thanks to a Terry McDermott goal and points from Shane Coyle and Barry McNulty. Proinsias O'Kane, Mattie Donnelly and Eoin Gormley supplied points for a St.Macartans side that trailed 0-6 to 1-4.
McNulty got Greencastle's only second half score in the 12th minute and by that stage the tide was already turning in favour of Trillick with Shane Gormley firing in a goal and Donnelly converting a free. Midfielder Enda Clarke had to go off with a hamstring injury and that was a big blow to the visitors with county attacker Niall Gormley landing the last score of the contest.
Emmetts left empty-handed
Derrylaughan 2-12
Eskra 3-6
ESKRA were left wondering how they managed to return from the Loughshore empty handed after appearing to be well on their way to victory when finding the Kevin Barrys' net on three occasions in the opening half hour.
Paul Turbitt scored 2-2 for the Emmetts in the opening quarter and even though Derrylaughan responded with points from Ciaran Quinn and Fergal McAliskey a Paul Marlow goal in the 28th minute left the visitors in a strong position at the interval, 3-3 to 0-7 ahead.
Within ten minutes of the restart Brendan Quinn and Paddy Quinn had both scored Derrylaughan goals to turn the game on its head and with McAliskey, Ciaran Quinn and Ciaran Gervin contributing a combined tally of ten points between them they proved to have too much fire power for an Eskra side that managed just a Peter Hughes brace in the final twenty seven minutes of the game. The home side finished with fourteen men after Seamus Carron was red carded in injury time.
Pomeroy's first reversal
Urney 0-12
Pomeroy 0-10
URNEY is never an easy place to get a result and Pomeroy found that out to their cost on Sunday as they slipped to their first reversal of the new campaign. Urney led 0-8 to 0-6 at the end of an action packed first half that saw Plunketts full back Ciaran Cunningham red carded in the final minute.
Chris Bogle led the way in the scoring stakes for the St.Columbas with four points with Johnny Lafferty weighing in with a couple as well, Christopher Colhoun and Justin McCaffrey among the Pomeroy scorers. Pomeroy drew level in the early stages of the second half through Ciaran Slane but with less than ten minutes left to play the hosts led by the minimum margin.
Lafferty then blazed a penalty over the bar and Slane's fourth point of the afternoon set up a tense finish before Lafferty's fifth made sure of victory for Urney.
Taggart shines for Tats
Tattyreagh 1-9
Killeeshil 1-9
CONOR Taggart proved to be the Tattyreagh hero with a 59th minute goal to earn his side a share of the spoils as the St.Patrick's good start to life in Division Two continues.
It was a close contest throughout the sixty odd minutes with Tattyreagh just ahead at the break thanks to points from Kevin Gallagher, Sean Darcy and Barry Montgomery, Shane Mallon and John McMullan with a couple of points each for the St.Mary's.
Points from Gallagher and Colin Harkin put the home side further ahead on the restart but Mallon kept Killeeshil in touch before Jim McMullan goaled for the visitors. There was just over ten minutes left at that stage but Tattyreagh salvaged something from the game with that late Taggart strike after he had profited from a Sean Darcy knock down.
Clann's derby success
Clann na nGael 1-14
Gortin 0-13
CLANN na nGael are the outright leaders in the division after this derby success over Gortin mage it four straight wins. Stephen O'Neill led the way in the scoring stakes for the home side with an impressive 1-4 but this was by no means a one man show.
The hosts raced into an early 0-6 to 0-2 lead with Gareth McDermott, Gary Devine and Brian Dooher all on target but with Diarmuid McNulty in fine form for the visitors there was only two points between the sides at the break. In the second half O'Neill and McDermott exchanged points with McNulty and Kevin Mossey and going into the final quarter it was still anybody's game.
That's when Stephen O'Neill struck for the only goal of the game and it gave Clann na nGael a sufficient cushion to go on and claim victory.
Rock are fired up
Rock 0-11
Moy 0-9
MOY made the short trip to Rock confident of picking up the two points but they came up against a fired up home side who upset the odds against the sky blues who ended the contest with only twelve players.
Three early Martin McCreesh points helped give Rock the upper hand but it was level at the break after Ryan Mellon matched that tally for the visitors although they were already down to fourteen men after Mark Jordan was red carded. In the opening minutes of the second half Tomas McNicholl was dismissed for a second yellow card offence but it was still score for score with McCreesh and Mellon the main marksmen for their sides.
Sean Cavanagh edged Moy in front in the final minute of normal time but in a lengthy spell of injury time there was still time for Rock to reply through Peter Girvan and McCreesh's eighth point of the contest as Tyrone defender Philip Jordan was sent off for a second yellow card offence.
Harps making noises
Stewartstown 0-14
Moortown 0-9
STEWARTSTOWN are beginning to make people sit up and take notice and on Sunday they made it five points from a possible six after emerging worthy winners in this all east encounter with Moortown.
The Harps led 0-7 to 0-6 at the interval with county U21 player Gareth Devlin posting four points and Owen Coyle and Paul Dillon also on target, Michael Hagan, Philip Muldoon and Colum Campbell responding for the Loughshore men.
The home side effectively won the game in the third quarter as they started to pull away from their opponents with Devlin, Peter Armour and Owen Coyle all weighing in with points. Campbell and Muldoon responded for the St.Malachys but the momentum was all with the hosts and Devlin took his personal tally to five with Armour taking his to three in what was a fine all round performance from Stewartstown.
