ACL Division 3 Round-up

Tones winning gallop

Drumquin 1-13
Drumragh 1-10

TABLE -toppers Drumquin maintained their one hundred per cent record with a fourth win from four fixtures but the Tones had to work hard against a spirited Sarsfields to seal this three-point success.

Ryan McCallion, not for the first time, topped the scoring charts with a five-point tally. Pearse McGirr rowed in with a significant 1-1, his goal coming at an opportune moment to help his side establish a six-point lead.

Drumragh, though, were far from finished and came storming back thanks to a Paddy Gormley major plus points courtesy of James Keenan, Martin Taggart and Gareth Haughey. The guests shared parity with time ticking away but McCallion and company closed the game out for the Tones who sit two points clear of the chasing pack.

Knights shine at last

Beragh 2-12
Augher 2-7

THE sides shared four goals but Beragh got the better of the point exchanges to record their first success as the opening quarter of the junior programme concluded.

Beragh made sure through a Mickey Ward goal near the end, Ward completing a 2-4 scoring salvo in the process as his team secured a welcome win.

Francis McMeel and Artie Kelly netted majors for the St Macartan's during the course of play, the Augher men also garnering points from the likes of Jamie Donnelly in chief and Finbarr Daly.

Martin Rodgers and Eddie Molloy were also to the forefront with points for the Red Knights who will aim to build on the foundation of this victory against an Augher team that must up its win ratio as well.

Sigersons bounce back

Brackaville 0-13
Strabane 2-19

STRABANE, beaten by Derrytresk on their previous trip to East Tyrone, made no mistake at Brackaville but a young home team gave them a good run for their money.

Last quarter goals from Chris Devine and Warner Mullen underpinned a pleasing performance from the Sigersons, although the Roes were only two points down 17 minutes into the second half here.

Brackaville battled gamely with Ciaran Currie, Sean McNally and Paddy Gervin prominent on the scoreboard

Warner Mullen landed seven points in the first half, six from frees, as Strabane established a lead of 0-11 to 0-6. The home Roes came back strongly in the third quarter to get within two points but those away goals plus a penalty save by James O'Reilly put the game beyond Brackaville.

Emmet's earn reward

Brocagh 1-11
Aghaloo 0-9

AGHALOO slumped to their first defeat of the campaign against a Brocagh team that now join the O'Neill's on the five-point mark in the table.

The Emmet's had to come from 0-7 to 0-5 down at the interval but did so stylishly after Stephen Donnelly dominated the scoring stakes for Aghaloo with five first half points, Sean Douglas and Leslie Stephenson landing singles.

It was another Donnelly who led Brocagh's account at the opposite end, namely Ciaran who finished with six all told that included some key second half contributions as Brocagh got on top.

A Daniel Campbell goal and point brace cemented Brocagh's resurgence, Barry Dally also getting on the scoresheet. Two Stephen Donnelly points, on the other hand, was Aghaloo's second half lot.

St Joseph's bag points

Castlederg 0-6
Glenelly 0-10

THESE North Tyrone neighbours served up a tight enough tussle where some goal chances failed to materialise and in the end Glenelly managed to get the better of the exchanges.

The St Joseph's showed ahead by two points at the conclusion of a low-key first half (0-4 to 0-2), Seamus Harkin and Ronan O'Kane with braces to a point each in reply from Peter McGarvey and Aidan Lynch.

Lynch and McGarvey took their tallies to three apiece during the course of the second half for a battling St Eugene's who would have pushed this one very close only for Tim Harkin's double penalty save that denied them a crucial score.

Harkin and O'Kane fired over subsequent points to clinch it in favour of a relieved St Joseph's.
