ACL DIvision 2 Round-up

Lafferty comes to Urney's rescue

Dungannon 2-12
Urney 3-9

RONAN Lafferty came off the bench to rescue a point for Urney when he grabbed a last minute goal at O'Neill Park. The St.Columbas played well in the first half and were full value for their four point half-time lead after both James McMenamin and Johnny Lafferty had found the net, Conal Morgan and Sean McIntosh with points for Dungannon.

Chris Bogle and Aidan Lynch had second half points for the visitors with Stephen Kelly and Declan Treanor on target for Dungannon who also scored two goals through Mickey Hands and Morgan.

With time running out Dungannon led 2-12 to 2-9 and look set to add to their opening win of the season from Friday night but Ronan Lafferty had other ideas and his goal gave the St.Columba's a deserved point to show for their efforts.

Stylish Clann ease away

Eskra 0-8
Clann na nGael 1-15

CLANN na nGael turned on the style in the second half at Eskra to continue their one hundred percent winning record against an Emmetts side that had asked questions of them in the opening half hour.

Four points from Ryan Gartland along with efforts from Conor McGirr and Peter Hughes meant that the hosts only trailed by the minimum margin at the break, Gareth McDermott, Stephen Kerlin and defender Peter Devine on target for the visitors who hit the bar twice in the first half through Dominic Devine and Brendan Conway. Gartland levelled matters on the restart from a free but they were to score just once more as Clann na nGael took control.

McDermott and Brian Dooher contributed half a dozen second half points between them before substitute James Conway capped an impressive second half display with a late goal following good work from Adrian Ball.

Reds stay in title hunt

Gortin 0-11
Trillick 0-12

A POINT from a free from Mattie Donnelly four minutes from time ensured that Trillick collected the win in a close contest against Gortin. Proinsias O'Kane, Daniel McDonald and Emmett McFadden all weighed in with first half points for a St.Macartans side that led 0-7 to 0-5 at the short whistle, Diarmuid McNulty firing over four points for the St.Patricks.

Mattie and Niall Donnelly added points for the visitors on the restart but McNulty and Pete O'Neill responded for Gortin and it was clear at this stage that they game was going to be in the balance right to the end. Mattie Donnelly scored another brace but again the hosts drew level through scores from Kevin Mossey and O'Neill. A draw looked the likely outcome before Donnelly's fourth point of the afternoon secured victory for the unbeaten St.Macartan's who fielded without county attacker Niall Gormley.

Edendork break duck

Edendork 1-14
Derrylaughan 0-15

TWO points in the final two minutes from John McGuckin and Brian Og O'Rourke propelled Edendork to their first win of the season just when it seemed that Derrylaughan were going to be involved in their second stalemate of the weekend.

Fergal McAliskey was in fine form for the Kevin Barrys as he hit five first half points but the St.Malachys had scores of their own from Mark McLernon and Paddy McGuckin to ensure the sides were level at half-time.

McAliskey, Ciaran Gervin and Paddy Quinn all pointed as Derrylaughan enjoyed a productive third quarter but Edendork had scores from Daniel Grimley and Patrick Donnelly before Garry McCurry took his personal tally to 1-2 with a 18th minute goal. McLernon edged Edendork in front only for McAliskey's eighth point to tie things up again before Edendork got those two late scores to secure a crucial win.

'Castle stage rally

Greencastle 0-15
Tattyreagh 1-5

GREENCASTLE returned to winning ways at the weekend when they produced a superb second half display after the sides had gone in at the break on level terms. Barry McNulty, Martin Conway and Kevin Ferrity had first half points for Greencastle but Tattyreagh struck for an 18th minute Mark Darcy goal after Sean Darcy had broke a high ball into his path.

Shane Coyle and Colin Harkin traded points on the restart before the hosts took over. Martin Conway, Shane McCullagh, Coyle and Ferrity all posted points with Tattyreagh's only response coming from the boot of Chris McCarroll. In the final couple of minutes Greencastle hit a good spell again that yielded a couple of points for Coyle as well as one from substitute Brian Devlin and even though the visitors had the final say through Harkin the game was over as a contest.

Harps record goes

Killeeshil 0-17
Stewartstown 0-16

KILLEESHIL inflicted the first defeat of the season on Stewartstown when they had the minimum to spare in a high scoring encounter at Kennedy Park. Gareth Devlin and Owen Coyle landed three points each for the Harps in the opening half hour but it was the home side who just shaded things with midfielder Kevin Hughes scoring four points and Rory McCann and John McMullan getting a brace each.

In the third quarter Paul Dillion and Peter Armour exchanged points with Shane Mallon and Gary Reilly before a trio of Gareth Devlin points brought the visitors level. Both sides missed chances in the closing stages and it looked like ending in stalemate until Jim McMullan proved to be the St.Mary's hero with the winning score two minutes into injury time as they moved up to joint fourth in the Intermediate table.

Moy recovery

Moy 2-10
Pomeroy 0-9

MOY recovered from a half-time deficit to hold Pomeroy to just two second half points as the sky blues picked up their third victory of the new campaign. The Plunketts began well with Brendan Conway, Charlie Cochrane, Christopher Colhoun and Ollie McCreesh all scoring points inside the opening seven minutes but three minutes later Sean Cavanagh grabbed a Moy goal, the Tyrone star then having to leave the field with a head injury obtained when shooting to the net.

Padraig Laverty took his first half tally to three for Moy but it was Pomeroy who led at the break thanks to scores from Stephen McKenna and Justin McCaffrey. Cavanagh returned at full forward in the second half and promptly fired over three points within five minutes of the restart.

McCaffrey hit two points from frees for Pomeroy but that was the sum total of their efforts and a brace from substitute Ciaran Conroy was followed by a goal from Karol McQuade with the last kick of the game.
