ACL Division 3 Round-up

Fintona find their feet

Fintona 3-10
Derrytresk 1-7

IT HAD been a somewhat sluggish start to the season prior to Sunday for Fintona but the Pearses found the turbo gear to halt in-form Derrytresk's run.

Niall Mellon was a two-goal hero for the Pearses, with Benny McCarney and Mark Donnelly among their point providers. Mellon and Sean Monteith harvested first half goals as Fintona led 2-4 to 0-5.

Derrytresk, for whom Cathal O'Neill top-scored on six points, were reduced to 14 men just before the break but they soldiered on and a Paddy O'Neill major gave them a third quarter fillip. Fintona, though, still held a firm gip on the situation and that was rubber-stamped when Mellon got through for his second goal of the day to put the result beyond doubt.

All square at Augher

Augher 0-15
Brocagh 1-12

BOTH teams took a tangible reward from this decent contest at Fr Hackett Park, Jamie Donnelly's late free bringing the St Macartan's level.

Brocagh recovered well from a slow start, chiefly through the auspices of Ciaran Donnelly and goal-scorer Daniel Campbell. Incidentally, Brocagh's Donnelly and Augher's Donnelly finished with seven points apiece on the day.

The St Macartan's started brightly in the warm sunshine and racked up four points without response, although an injury to influential midfielder Aidan Cassidy took some wind out of their sails.

By half-time it was just 0-7 to 0-6 in favour of Augher as Ciaran Donnelly led the points charge on the Brocagh side. Campbell's second half major left Augher with work to do but Donnelly subsequently saved his team a point.

Roes repel Knights

Brackaville 2-12
Beragh 1-9

IT proved to be a less than productive weekend in broader terms for Beragh, a draw on Friday night at home to Newtownstewart followed by this Sunday defeat away to Brackaville.

The Red Knights found the Roes in no mood for concessions as the home team struck for first half majors courtesy of Paddy Gervin(penalty) and Conor Doris.

Beragh went in 2-4 to 0-7 behind, Sean McMahon and Martin Rodgers proving their main source of points in that opening segment of play.

As the game progressed, Brocagh were dealt a double injury blow, the most serious being Joe Rafferty(0-3) who had to depart the scene in an ambulance. But despite such a setback and a McMahon major for Beragh the host the Roes still ran out useful winners.

Drumquin on a roll

Owen Roes 0-5
Drumquin 2-17

TABLE-TOPPERS Drumquin took their tally to a full quota of ten points from five games and they possessed much firepower for an under par Owen Roes team who were slumping to their fifth straight reversal.

The Tones took control of the situation from early doors but the Roes stayed in relative touch during a first half that finished with Drumquin five points in front.

Kevin O'Neill, Brendan Boggs and Stephen Boyle got home points but the Tones simply had too much power at the business end with Paul McLaughlin and Barry Sheridan hitting goals plus sharing a seven-point haul into the bargain.

Ciaran Colton nabbed three points as seven away players in all scored, Drumquin unperturbed by losing a man and looking determined to keep that top spot.
