ACL Division 1 Round-up

Mugsy red carded after match

Aghyaran 1-11
Cookstown 0-11

CARD happy referee Donal Dorman sent three players off for the third successive week as Aghyaran collected their first win of the season thanks to a victory over fellow strugglers Cookstown. Terence Byrne was the match winner for the St.Davog's when he toe poked the ball to the net in the final minute after the Cookstown keeper had dropped an effort from Martin Penrose.

Penrose and Michael Anderson had first half points for the hosts but it was the Father Rocks who led at the break with county attacker Raymond Mulgrew weighing in with three points. Three Anderson points helped the St.Davogs draw level after they had Kevin Lynch sent off for a second yellow card offence. Eoin Mulligan and Barry Hughes had Cookstown points and with the game level Anderson was straight red carded. The drama wasn't finished even after Byrne's late major as Mulligan was red carded at the end of the contest.

The Tyrone forward faces an anxious wait to discover whether the referee reports him for an offence which would rule him out of both club and county football.

Lough ship five

Loughmacrory 0-9
Donaghmore 5-7

DONAGHMORE produced their best performance of the season to date when they put five goals past Loughmacrory in what was former Tyrone star Eugene McKenna's first game as manager for the St.Patricks. Loughmacrory were the better side in the first half but despite outscoring their opponents six to two they still only went in at the break on level terms.

That's because Donaghmore scored goals from Patrick Doherty and Mark Hetherington in response to half a dozen points from the on song Ronan Ward. In the opening attack of the second period Niall McCaul put the visitors in front for the first time and within four minutes they had taken control of things as a Richard Hetherington goal followed three Shane Mulgrew points.

Emmett Donaghy converted two Loughmacrory frees but by the time they scored again the game was out of their reach as Doherty kicked a couple of points and Kelvin Hughes and Mark Hetherington added further goals. Loughmacrory were reduced to fourteen men late on when Ward was sent off but by that stage the issue was beyond any doubt.

Champs hit half-a-dozen victories

Killyman 1-4
Dromore 0-17

DROMORE chalked up their sixth successive victory with a routine win away against a Killyman side that are still looking for their first point of the season.

County duo Ryan McMenamin and Colm McCullagh had scored half a dozen points between them before the visitors were awarded a penalty which the latter missed. It took the home side until two minutes into injury time to open their account when Conor Boyle converted from the penalty spot.

Dromore were then dealt a blow when McMenamin had to go off with an injury but it didn't upset their rhythm as McCullagh took his individual haul to nine points with Paddy Montague, Sean O'Neill, Kevin Donnelly and substitute Aidan Goodwin all on target as well. Boyle had a second half brace for the St.Marys with Eddie Holland and Ciaran Og Hughes contributing a point each but the visitors still ran out comfortable winners in the end.

Meenan rescue act

Killyclogher 1-7 Eglish 1-7

LEO Meenan came to Killyclogher's rescue with a late point to claim a share of the spoils as Eglish at last broke their duck at the sixth time of asking. It took the visitors a quarter of an hour to open their account but it was worth the wait as former county player Brendan Donnelly smashed in a brilliant goal after good approach play from Mark Gallagher.

That wiped out a good start by the St.Marys with Simon O'Neill and Gary Martin both scoring points. It was the visitors who led at halftime though with Ryan McKenna and Martin McCann both supplying late points. McCann and Meenan traded scores on the restart before the later struck for a well taken goal after he had caught the ball well on the edge of the square. Two Emmett McKenna points and one from midfielder Caolan Dolan took Eglish back level before Peter McCann looked to have won it until Meenan's late intervention.

Carmen edge it

Carrickmore 1-10
Clonoe 1-8

WITH five minutes to go in this close contest the O'Rahillys looked like extending their unbeaten start to the campaign but Carrickmore struck for a goal from full forward Mark Donnelly to turn the tide in their favour as they made it six wins from six.

The St.Colmcilles looked impressive in the opening stages with Kevin McNally and Donnelly among their points but they failed to register in the last ten minutes of the half as Clonoe hit back with points from Paul O'Neill and Patrick Doris as well as a last minute PJ Lavery goal to put their noses in front. McNally and Barry Daly exchanged points with Stephen McNulty and Patrick Doris before the latter scored again to put his side in front.

That's when Donnelly punched to the net and in a tense finish Carrickmore held out to continue to share the lead at the top of the table.

Fine home record

Omagh 1-15
Galbally 1-6

OMAGH remain unbeaten this season at Healy Park and in truth they never looked like losing that record against a Galbally side that are struggling at the moment. Two points each from Cathal McCarron and Conor McMahon as well as efforts from Joe McMahon, Keith Burns and Conor O'Donnell had the St.Endas well in control before half back Dean O'Neill scored a goal.

Paul Rafferty opened the Pearses account from a free, their only score of the first half, as further points from Jason McAnula and Conor Doherty left the home side 1-10 to 0-1 to the good at the break. Galbally managed to outscore Omagh in the second half but at no stage did they look like coming into serious contention.

Rafferty and Declan Murphy had points with midfielder Ciaran Tally getting on the end of an Eamon McElroy centre to fist to the net but even though they were still twenty minutes left to play it still felt like a consolation score.
