OMAGH United have bolstered their squad ahead of Saturday's eagerly anticipated WKD Intermediate Cup second round encounter at Championship One side, Bangor.
Although new signing, Mountjoy United striker, David Matthews, is ineligible for Saturday's match at Clandeboye Park, United boss, Roy McCreadie, is delighted to bring the talented player on board.
The lively front man impressed the former Omagh Town chief during Omagh's first round WKD Intermediate Cup victory over Mountjoy at Lisnagirr Road and he was keen to bring him into the Athletic Park fold.
"He's young and I think he has raw talent. He's big and physical, and very quick. We felt every time the ball came to him he looked dangerous," McCreadie commented.
"I felt, after analysing his performance against us that if we could get him on board and get some coaching into him he would be a real asset and a threat. I think he has the potential to play at a higher level and we've been trying to get him on board for a week or two and he's been very up front that he wanted to join us.
"He's another quality striker. We were short of strikers so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing him perform for us."
The addition of Matthews to the United squad should give the rest of the side a timely boost ahead of their trip to Bangor on Saturday, although coming up against a former Premiership side, should be motivation enough for the Mid Ulster Intermediate A outfit.
"We've been idle now for the last couple of weeks because of the weather but so too have Bangor," McCreadie added.
"We'll have an early start on Saturday morning but people forget that they were a Premier League team last season and it was only financial problems that forced them to move back into the Championship, where they have been holding their own.
"It's a difficult tie for us, and a good test, so we won't be taking it lightly. Playing teams like Bangor are games you want to be involved in. We want to test ourselves and we want to progress to the next round of the cup."
