Bangor............3
Omagh Utd......0
OMAGH United's WKD Intermediate Cup run ended at the second round stage on Saturday when they fell 3-0 at Bangor in an evenly contested match, which was decided in the opening 15 minutes of the second half.
The hosts enjoyed the better of the first half chances with Andrew Rosbotham and Glen Upton going close, while Benny Mitchell and Stephen Cunningham did likewise for United.
The turning points of the second half occurred in the opening minute and on the hour mark when the visitors missed a penalty and conceded twice in 45 seconds.
Kevin Sloan did well to make his way into the box to win the spot kick, conceded by Marc Whitford, but home keeper, Gary Maguire, produced a fine save.
Having blown their best chance to take the lead, Roy McCreadie's men then succumbed to a quick one-two as Bangor seized the initiative, and ultimately, the victory with two goals in a minute through skipper, Dean Youle and winger, Wayne Maxwell, before Upton grabbed the insurance strike with two minutes remaining.
There was little between the sides throughout, although Bangor's sharper and quicker passing did give them a slight edge.
However, it wasn't until the 14th minute that their supposed superiority came through with Rosbotham cracking Tomasz Antczak's right post with a thunderous 16 yard shot after Ryan Mann's right wing cross had been nodded down by Andrew McIntyre.
The hosts had another chance three minutes later when Antzcak produced a stunning save, low to his left, after Upton had latched onto Stephen Whiteside's hopeful ball over the top.
The visitors responded towards the end of the half and put together a couple of decent moves.
But they failed to test Maguire until the 33rd minute when the home keeper bravely gathered at the feet of Seamus Fanthorpe to gather Benny Mitchell's free kick.
In the final minute of the first half, Cunningham's well struck 25 yard volley was easily saved by the home keeper.
United started the second half with purpose and desire.
They should have been ahead within 90 seconds of the restart after Sloan, who jinked his way past two defenders before being brought down in the area by Whitford, saw Maguire guess right and save his spot-kick.
Upton could have enacted an almost immediate punishment for the miss when he blazed a volley wide from 15 yards six minutes later, but Bangor did capitalise on some generous Omagh defending on the hour mark.
Youle opened the scoring in the 60th minute, slotting Mark Magennis' cross through the legs of Antczak at the back post, 45 seconds before Maxwell executed a delightful chip from 14 yards to double their advantage to knock the stuffing out of the visitors.
United didn't give up though and had second half substitute, John McGlinn got more on Cunningham's corner in the 73rd minute, or had Gerard Moore's 20 yard free kick not been deflected by the wall 10 minutes later, then the final minutes of the game could have been interesting.
The visitors best chance came with three minutes to go.
Moore's throughball was left by Sloan for the advancing Cunningham to ghost in behind the centre-backs, but home keeper, Maguire, was out quick to nick the ball off his toe.
Disappointingly for United, Upton then danced his way into their penalty area before cheekily chipping Antczak to make it three, while Magennis almost made it four in the 90th minute with an audacious 45 yard volley after the keeper's goal-kick, but the ball landed on the roof of Antczak's net to halt further gloss being added to the scoreline.
