STRATHROY HARPS.........3
IRVINESTOWN WANDERERS.........0
A NUMBER of interested parties are believed to have thrown their hat in the ring for the vacant manager's post at Irvinestown Wanderers, who are down on their luck as well as struggling to pull away from the dreaded drop zone.
Over the coming days the club's committee is scheduled to meet and it is hoped that by next week a new man will be in place to steer the beleaguered Bawnacre outfit away from the choppy waters on the periphery of relegation.
At Cranny Bridge on Saturday Harps ran out convincing victors in the end but not after enjoying the odd slice of good fortune during a tussle that should have yielded further goals.
And the visitors will certainly feel that they are not getting the rub of the green at the moment after striker Niall Gormley hit the woodwork twice, once when the match was scoreless and again with Harps leading 1-0 after Tony Quinn had tapped home a splendid Darren Teague left-sided cross at the back post.
The home side, too, caused a very real and present danger in attack with Gerard McCaskie, Mark Sloan and Quinn all failing to make the most of a number of promising situations during the opening 45 minutes.
That solitary Quinn strike was all that separated the sides at the interval as Gormley failed to beat the home netminder when through one-on-one while Ronan Ormsby had an effort hoofed off the line, that attempt arriving shortly after Teague was dismissed for foul and abusive language.
By then Wanderers' cause looked a forlorn one after Caolan McCrossan skipped by two defenders to place the ball expertly beyond the advancing goalkeeper.
That proved the defining moment and in the closing minutes Dominic McMullin's troops put a real gloss on the final score line when teenage substitute Mark McCaskie, replacement for Mark Sloan, outwitted two defenders on the right and crossed for older cousin Barry McCaskie to volley home at the back stick.
