HOW Chimney Corner must hate Darragh Park!
Two seasons ago Dergview put 10 past the Co. Antrim visitors en route to claiming the Irish League Second Division title but on Saturday the class of 2009 went one better as Ryan Campbell, Sean Ferry and Andrew Sproule all grabbed hat-tricks apiece in a double figure drubbing at a sodden Castlederg venue.
But while the three-hitters were boosting their personal tallies for the season the best goal of the bunch was netted by Aaron Walsh, the midfield maestro clinically executing a spectacular overhead kick from Johnny McCaskie's headed assist.
That sublime strike was the obvious highlight of a dreary afternoon for the visitors who had parted company with their manager days earlier and arrived at Darragh Park without half of their regular first team.
From the opening moments it was obvious Corner's primary objective was one of damage limitation as Campbell and Ferry both failed by a whisker to connect with Andy Sproule's teasing right-sided cross.
On 13 minutes it was Sproule, who got the show on the road with a rasping angled drive, after excellent play by Gareth Sproule, who swiftly made it 2-0, in the wake of a thrilling dash onto a searching Colin Robinson pass by Andy Sproule.
Ferry then netted his first, volleying home a peach of a left-wing delivery by Dergview's marauding left-back John Carlin before the Strabane man connected with a centre from Campbell to pick his spot low inside goalkeeper Paddy McKeown's right upright.
In between Ferry's double, visiting skipper Gary Brown curled a free kick inches above James O'Reilly's crossbar. It was the visitors' only genuine attempt on goal during the 90 minutes as Dergview added a fifth around the hour mark when Campbell head home another superb delivery by Carlin.
Campbell's first of the afternoon signalled the opening of the floodgates as Walsh's stunning acrobatic effort brought up the half dozen and Ferry's perfectly-weighted through ball sent Andy Sproule clear to round McKeown for a magnificent seven.
Substitute Steven Campbell and brother Ryan combined on the right for Ferry to volley in his third (8-0) and within 60 seconds the Rocket (Ryan Campbell) belted in off the goalkeeper's left upright from 20 yards after a mix-up in a bedraggled Corner rearguard.
Two minutes later it was 10 as Andy Sproule bulged the net, following a pinpoint cross by overlapping fullback Gerard Donaghey, and right at the death Andy Sproule slid Ryan Campbell down the left channel to complete the rout.
