ACL Division 3 Round-up

Glenelly topple the Tones

Drumquin 0-11 Glenelly 1-9

DIVISIONAL leaders Drumquin came into this tussle against third-placed Glenelly with eight wins from as many outings but their first-rate record was ended by a determined St Joseph's side that came from five points down in the process.

The Tones appeared to have win number nine within sight at halfway when 0-8 to 0-3 up, Ryan McCallion to the forefront with four of a six-point total overall and Emmet McPhilemy also getting on the scoresheet.

The visiting St Joseph's, though, bounced back in the second segment with Cathal Nicholas and Seamus Harkin sharing a four-point haul that was perfectly complemented by a Kevin McAnena major.

Drumquin lost Liam Patterson on a second yellow card and the sands of time ran out sharply on them, this after Patrick McCullagh had hit what proved the winner for Glenelly.

Sigersons impress

Brocagh 0-6
Strabane 2-18

A FLUID display of score-taking sealed this significant win for Strabane in East Tyrone and one that now moves the Sigersons joint top with Drumquin.

As the Tones slipped up narrowly at home to Glenelly, the Sigersons capitalised in comprehensive fashion against an underpar Brocagh team.

First half goals courtesy of Gerard Murray and Stephen Stewart set Strabane on their way and by the break they were 2-8 to 0-3 in front, Brian Catterson landing two of Brocagh's scores and Paul McGorrey the other one.

The Emmets added three more in the final half via McGorrey, Daniel Campbell and Justin Campbell but Chris Devine, John-Paul Gallagher, Martin McNulty and Warner Mullan blasted over a succession of multiple scores to complete a pleasing day all round for the guests.

Flurry at finish

Castlederg 2-5
Brackaville 0-15

THE host St Eugene's led here at half-time by 1-3 to 0-5 but a nine-point salvo from Brackaville without reply turned things in their favour during the second 30 minutes.

A Sean Meehan goal plus points via Aidan Lynch, Peter McGarvey and Patrick Lynch enabled Castlederg to edge the first half exchanges over a Roes side that fluffed an early penalty opportunity.

Ciaran Currie, scorer of three opening half points for Brackaville, tagged on two more after the break. Darren Hughes hit three, with the returning Alan Fox also on target to cap a solid performance along with James McElvanna.

Eamon Friel netted Castlederg's second goal but that extended points flurry from the East Tyrone men essentially settled the outcome and undid some good work on behalf of the home side.

St Eugene's prevail

Dregish 1-11
Newtownstewart 2-17

THE closing scoreline hides a gallant effort from Dregish who came back well in the third quarter prior to the St Eugene's pulling clear in the latter stages of this free-scoring contest.

Goals from Cathal McGillion and Paul McKernan aided Newtownstewart's dominant first half display, Brendan Boyle and Dean Arnold in the points mix as the St Eugene's headed for the interval 2-8 to 0-3 to the good.

Dregish responded admirably in a productive burst at the dawn of the second half, Peter McCrossan finding the net after just a couple of minutes. Aidan O'Kane and Christopher O'Kane then supplied point braces, this duo contributing ten between them on the day.

That made it 2-8 to 1-7 but Boyle, Arnold and Mickey McConomy settled any away jitters with some expertly worked scores.

Goals seal it

Derrytresk 2-12
Aghaloo 0-7

DERRYTRESK rounded off the first half of their league programme with a win that takes them onto the eleven-point mark and a top six slot for added measure.

Aghaloo were minus some regulars but this does not devalue what was a positive performance from a Fir an Chnoic side that continue to catch the eye.

It was 0-7 to 0-2 for the hosts at half-time, Mickey Rea showing the way with four points, Niall Galvin contributing a brace and Cathal O'Neill landing one.

Stephen Donnelly, provider of Aghaloo's two opening period points, tagged on another after the break, with Brian McKenna, Enda McGarrity and Gerard Daly supplying singles.

Derrytresk, however, sealed the points thanks to a double goal whammy via Joe McKee and Rea.

Brave Roes fall

Owen Roes 2-10
Errigal Thirds 3-13

THERE was no shortage of scores in this encounter and Errigal Ciaran came out on the right side to maintain their challenge in the top zone with eight games played.

The visitors laid a strong foundation in the opening exchanges as Declan Quinn and Dara Tierney goaled plus Rory McCann and Michael Harte proved prominent in point terms.

Owen Roes, despite losing Brendan Boggs to a first half injury, rallied close to the interval for Willie Doherty and Mickey Dooher to claim three-pointers.

The North Tyrone team trailed by six on the turnaround but Kiernan Kelly in chief and also Mark O'Neill drove over a steady run of points. The spirited Roes missed some chances too before a Quinn major and a Tierney minor put the game beyond them.

Pearses progress

Drumragh 0-7
Fintona 2-9

THE Pearses moved onto double point figures for the season with this Friday night win away to a Drumragh team still struggling to find their best form.

Two goals divided the teams at the break, Benny McCarney striking for a three-pointer early and right at the end of the period Paraic Kelly netted number two.

In between the point exchanges proved even with Martin Taggart (0-2), Paul Maguire and James Keenan scoring for Drumragh and Mark Donnelly (0-2), Bernard Cassidy and Kelly doing likewise in reply.

Taggart, Maguire and Gavin Quinn notched second half home scores but Fintona consolidated through Donnelly, Cassidy and Sean Monteith. Drumragh kept trying but the buffer of those two first half goals always looked likely to have a big bearing on the outcome and so it proved.

Derby classic

Clogher 1-7 Augher 0-17

THESE two near neighbours served up a real Friday night treat at St Patrick's Park, guests Augher gaining the upperhand due to a string of well-taken points.

Most scores either way on the night came in open play and Augher began well with Aidan McElroy, Patrick Treanor and Jamie Donnelly leading their points charge.

At 0-7 to 0-1 down, Clogher regrouped as Ciaran Shields and Kevin McKenna picked off a few scores to send them into the interval four adrift at 0-8 to 0-4.

Augher restored the six-point gap with Conor Hackett and Finbarr Daly amongst the score providers but a crisply finished Paddy McKernan major put Clogher back in contention.

Clogher lost Sean McCaffrey on a second yellow and the St Macartan's made sure with McElroy, Donnelly and Arthur Kelly scoring.
