Student feels 'fleeced' at Omagh Show

As a full-time university student, unable to secure a summer job in the current economic slowdown, I went along to Omagh Show on Saturday. I was charged the full adult admission to the showgrounds, despite having an ID card which shows I am in full-time education.

I was told that the "concession" rate only applies to "students" under 16 years of age and to pensioners. While I agree that special allowances should be made for these categories, they should apply also to everyone who does not have a regular adult wage or salary and who has valid photo ID to prove their status.

This is the situation that applies for many other local events that I support, such as GAA matches in Healy Park. Maybe the show organisers only want well-off farmers to attend!
