
Cooking skills secure Gaisce awards for Omagh boys
CULINARY skills proved invaluable when a group of teenage boys from CBS Omagh embarked on an adventure recently. Teacher Emma Caffakery made sure the 15 boys were well prepared for a two day orienteering trip to the Gortin Glens. The students brushed up on their cooking skills before setting out on the expedition which proved an important stepping stone on the road to receiving Gaisce awards.

North's young boffins heading for the RDS
THE BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition has recorded a phenomenal increase in entries from Northern Ireland for the January 2008 event. Five of the six counties have submitted entries for what is set to be another fantastic event at the RDS in January.
Tyrone will be represented by the Omagh CBS in the Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences category.
A total of 84 students from the North have entered; 51% of these are girls and 49% are boys.

McClintock pupils are primed on combatting future climate change
Action Renewables visited McClintock Primary School, Seskinore, Omagh as part of their on-going Northern Ireland-wide educational programme supported by Norfolkline Irish Sea Ferry Services.
This programme, which is linked to the schools' curriculum and is free of charge, aims to teach primary and post-primary school children about the importance of renewable energy in helping combat climate change.

Minister launches sports programme for primary schools
EDUCATION Minister Caitríona Ruane has officially launched the new 'Curriculum Sports programme', aimed at developing physical literacy skills and encouraging participation in sport amongst young children.
The programme, which will see coaches from the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and Irish Football Association (IFA) work with children between the ages of four and eight in schools, was launched today at the Queen's Physical Education Centre in Belfast.

ASSEMBLED guests at the tree planting ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary at Castlederg High School Past and present pupils and staff of Castlederg High School have planted a tree to mark the school's 50th anniversary.
The tree planting marked the start of a series of events which have been planned throughout the school year to celebrate the opening of the school in September 1958.

Anita dazzles judges in school art contest
THE broadest smile in Tyrone belonged to local St Lawrence Primary School pupil Anita McCoole whose artistic talents won her school a top of the range lap-top computer courtesy of renewable energy company Airtricity.
