A 48-year-old Enniskillen man faces an £850 fine and has been disqualified from driving after a number of motoring offences brought him before a recent sitting of Fermanagh Magistrate's Court.
District Judge Austin Kennedy heard how on the 31st March this year, the defendant Mark Sean Hannen from Sligo Road was driving on the Cornagrade Road when he was detected driving without insurance. He later produced his licence but his insurance was not valid for the vehicle in question.
On the 19th April, Hannen was stopped again driving a Ford Escort on Queen Street and failed to produce his insurance at a police station. He told police he had insurance. The car he was driving was not his. His policy was checked and it later transpired that his insurance had been cancelled due to non-payment.
Defending, Tommy Owens told the court his client had insurance but had changed cars and payment had not been made and the policy was unfortunately cancelled but his client had moved address and had not realised it was cancelled. On both occasion the cars had been lent to Hannen.
For the first insurance offence, Mr Kennedy imposed a £400 fine while for the second he imposed a £450. He further disqualified Hannen from driving for a period of 18 months.
