Cork and Fermanagh may be at opposite ends of the country but the distance was made of light of by Donal Og Cusack last Saturday as he 'landed' at Lissan to give the Fermanagh hurlers some tips.

The famed Cork hurling goalkeeper travelled by helicopter with Cork trainer Jerry Wallace as part of a GPA initiative to help developing hurling counties.

The two Cork men took training and then had a questions and answers session with the Fermanagh players afterwards.

Erne boss, Tom Walshe, was delighted with how the experiment went.

"It went very very well. The Cork boys could not find the pitch from the air for a while so they were a bit delayed but when they came they took over the session and it went exceptionally well.

"The session lasted about three hours and they did they exact same session that the Cork team would do so that was great for our boys," Tom explained before continuing,

"There was also very good questions and answers session where Donal Og and Jerry explained some of the things that they do that made Cork successful.

"There was some great insight into their training methods and the importance of being punctual."

This week Fermanagh enter the Nicky Rackard Cup with an away trip to Leitrim and Walshe is under no illusions of the task that awaits them.

"Leitrim will be very difficult and anybody who thinks that it will be easier needs to be realistic about it. We need to play well to get the win," Walshe told the Herald before setting his goals for the year out.

"I am hoping to get to a quarter final. If we can get a bit of belief into the squad then we should. I would like to get two points and a win to set us on our way and if the boys apply themselves the that is achievable."
