Driving without due care and attention is one of the motoring related offences Neil William Fleming (19) from Tempo Road in Enniskillen faced when he appeared before Fermanagh Magistrates Court.
This court appearance followed an incident between a car and a quad outside Tempo on 24th November last year.
On the date in question a female motorist reported that while she was driving down the Pubble Road, Tempo she was confronted with two quads coming towards her side by side, apparently racing.
One of the quads struck the side of her car as it passed and the defendant later was identified and spoken to about the offence, at which time he admitted he was driving one of the quads.
Defending, Bernard Corrigan explained the quad the defendant was driving was owned by his friend and both the friend and the defendant had their own insurance but neither policy covered the defendant to drive this vehicle on the date in question.
The defendant was contacted by police after this and he attended for interview. Mr Corrigan said the defendant had already paid for the damage - amounting to £509.
Since the incident the defendant has taken, and passed, his driving test. The court heard he has no other endorsements on his licence and that he is very remorseful over the incident.
District Judge Liam McNally said this was a serious matter in which the defendant was apparently racing on a quad.
For driving without due care and attention a £200 fine was imposed. For driving without insurance the defendant was fined £100 and had six penalty points endorsed on her licence. For failing to stop, and failing to report an accident fines of £50 on each count were handed down.
