Donate your old jersey and help African children

FERMANAGH'S green and white will soon be brightening up the football pitches in South Africa thanks to a initiative currently being promoted in the county.

The organisation African Schools Sports Association (ASSA) were recently invited to Fermanagh by Sean Lynch. He welcomed the founder of ASSA, Irish resident Patrick Maphoso, a native of South Africa, to the county and during his time here they managed to collected over 200 items of sportswear for Mr Maphoso to send back to South Africa.

ASSA was established due to the fact children and young people in Africa have very limited access to basic sportswear or equipment. Mr Maphoso explained: "Participation in sport brings with it opportunities for integration; personal development; understanding; thus bringing cohesion to communities who are otherwise displaced. Social inclusion is a fundamental right and helps create a healthier community," he stressed.

ASSA accept any type of sportswear or equipment, including GAA and soccer jerseys, football boots, shorts, socks etc. Donations can be left at G.M. Hicks Sports, Main Street, Lisnaskea, these will then be passed on to the charity who will distribute them in Africa.
