Possession of ecstasy

An Enniskillen woman found in possession of five ecstasy tablets has appeared before a recent sitting of Fermanagh Magistrates Court where she admitted the offence.

Shauna Maria Reihill (25) with an address at Head Street in Enniskillen was fined £250 for the offence.

The court heard that on 24th March this year police entered and searched a flat at Head Street having obtained a warrant to look for drugs.

Five suspected ecstasy tablets were found at the address and the defendant admitted that the tablets were hers and were for her own personal use.

Defending, Garry Smyth told the court this offence was towards the lower end of the scale and reiterated these drugs were for the defendant's own personal use and that she admitted responsibility from the start.

Didn't want to leave van

A plumber from Kinawley who was detected driving with excess alcohol has been disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £300 when he came before a recent sitting of Fermanagh Magistrates Court.

The court heard that on 1st December last year police spotted a Volkswagen Transporter van at Main Street, Derrylin and spoke to the driver, who was identified as Kieran Michael Martin (26) from Toneyvarnogue, Kinawley, the defendant in this case.

Police noticed the defendant's eyes were glazed and he smelt of intoxicating liquor.

The defendant was asked to provide a specimen of breath for analysis as police believed the defendant had been drinking but he failed to provide one without giving a reason for failure to do so.

Defending, Barry Lynam described the defendant as a plumber who operated as a sole trader and that the loss of his licence would have a massive impact on this individual.

Mr Lynam said his client intended to leave the van at the premises he was at but because he had all his work tools in the back he, foolishly, decided to drive the van home.

Sentencing Resident Magistrate Liam McNally gave the defendant credit for his clear record and plea at an early opportunity. He imposed a £300 fine and the 12 month driving disqualification.

Stole Hi-Fi from Currys

Stealing a Phillips Hi-Fi from Currys and then returning with the goods in an attempt to get a refund has led to an appearance before Fermanagh Magistrates Court for Laurence Gallagher (36) from Bagh, Drumahair, Co. Leitrim.

The court heard the defendant was observed on CCTV, on 20th March this year, putting a Phillips Hi-Fi into a cheaper unit's box and proceeding to the checkout to pay for the cheaper item.

A week later he came back to the store looking for a refund for the stolen item.

When challenged he told staff he took the more expensive item by mistake. The part of the hi-fi he took was no use without other components.

Defending, Garry Smyth said by returning to the shop he was going to be detected. He accepts he took the stereo from the shop and there was an element of deceit in this.

For stealing the item worth £178.98 a fine of £175 fine and four months in prison was imposed - suspending this for two years. For attempting to retain a refund for the stolen hi-fi Resident Magistrate Liam McNally imposed a two year conditional discharge.
