Tractor driver causes accident

A tractor driver who turned right when two vehicles were overtaking him causing both vehicles to end up in a field has been prosecuted at Fermanagh Magistrates Court for driving without due care and attention.

Martin McElroy (41) from Curryann Road, Clay, Maguiresbridge was fined £300 and disqualified from driving for three months by Resident Magistrate Liam McNally.

The court heard that on 19th June last year a three vehicle accident took place at Gardiner's Crossroads. Police who attended the scene saw a red Massey Ferguson tractor with trailer attached in a field. There was no damage to the tractor or trailer.

The defendant said he indicated to turn right but at the time a Citroen van and a Honda Accord were overtaking the tractor and trailer.

Witness statements from the drivers of the two vehicles, which were both damaged and both ended up in the field, said they were overtaking the tractor and trailer when it turned into them.
