Speeding BMW driver was over
the limit

Speeding along Queen Elizabeth road in a blue BMW car brought one Enniskillen man to police attention.

When police stopped the BMW car in the early hours of 13th March this year and spoke to the driver, Soulimon Laaroussi (25) from The Sidings in Enniskillen they detected a smell of intoxicating liquor on his breath. The defendant failed a preliminary breath test, was arrested and taken to Enniskillen Police Station where he gave an evidential specimen of breath the lower reading being 57mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath - 22 in excess of the limit.

The defendant recently appeared before Fermanagh Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, driving without insurance and driving without a vehicle test certificate.

Defending, Bernard Corrigan told the court his client was a Moroccan national who has been a resident here for eight or nine years.

Mr Corrigan said the defendant is employed in a local restaurant and that, on the night in question, he had a few drinks after finishing work. Mr Corrigan said the BMW car had recently been acquired by the defendant.

The defendant co-operated with authorities and the court heard the defendant would like to be considered for the drink-drive course.

Resident Magistrate Mr Prenter imposed a £200 fine and 12 month driving disqualification on the defendant for driving with excess alcohol.

For driving without insurance a £100 fine was imposed and the defendant was disqualified from driving for three months and for driving without a vehicle test certificate a £50 fine was imposed.

The defendant was certified as suitable for the drink-drivers course.
