Share Centre secures environmental award

The Share Holiday Village, on the shores of Upper Lough Erne, has won a top award in the annual Sustainable Ireland Energy, Environmental and Waste Management 2007 awards, held recently at the Ramada Hotel in South Belfast.

The Share Holiday Village operates on a 64-acre site from where it runs an outdoor education and creative arts centre, providing extensive residential and day visitor facilities. Over the past 10 years, it has installed what is the largest reed-bed water purification plant in Northern Ireland and has built up an extensive portfolio of renewable technologies.

These include three wind turbines, four solar water heating systems, and three wood pellet boilers. The organisation can now boast of using 99% renewable electricity on site, and 90% renewable heat, resulting in a total overall offset of CO2 of almost 300 tonnes.

Robert Livingstone, the Share Holiday Village General Manage collected the award on behalf of Share on the night
