Lorry driver failed to take rest

A Derrygonnelly lorry driver has come before Fermanagh Magistrates Court charged with motoring offences.

John Duffy (41) from Drumscramby, Derrygonnelly was stopped on 29th November last driving a 3 axle goods vehicle.

When his tachographs charts were examined it transpired that the defendant had failed to take adequate rest period on 16th November and had exceeded his daily driving period.

The defendant said he drove for O'Reilly Transport and he was driving as instructed although he said not taking a rest period was a one-off and he doesn't know why it happened.

Defending, Declan Marlow explained the maximum daily driving time was 10 hours and his client had driven for 11 hours 10 minutes.

When stopped there was three weeks data on the chart and only these infringements were discovered.

For each of the two offences fines of £100 were handed down.
