Services improving the everyday lives of deaf and hard of hearing people in Northern Ireland will benefit from a profoundly deaf Enniskillen man's 90th birthday celebrations.
Ronald Hornby of Maguiresbridge, raised £780 by asking friends and family to make a donation to RNID Northern Ireland, the largest charity representing the province's 219,000 deaf and hard of hearing people, instead of buying gifts for his 90th birthday.
Ronald, who wears hearing aids in both ears, said: "As someone with a hearing loss myself, I'm familiar with RNID Northern Ireland's excellent work for deaf and hard of hearing people. The charity provides much-needed information and support, as well as fantastic RNID Products, such as home loop and pager systems, which makes life so much easier.
"I'm delighted that my friends and family observed my 90th birthday wish and gave so generously towards RNID's vital services supporting people going through similar experiences to my own."
Marie Armstrong, RNID Fundraising Officer, said: "We're grateful that Ronald marked such a special birthday by selflessly asking people to give to RNID.
"It was a tremendous gesture, which will help us to continue changing the world for Northern Ireland's 219,000 deaf and hard of hearing people."
