Carpet restricted use of brakes

A 43-year-old Enniskillen man has been fined £250 and has had three penalty points endorsed on his licence after a careless driving offence brought him to a sitting of Fermanagh Magistrate's Court.

District Judge Austin Kennedy heard how police were called to a road traffic collision at Windmill Road on the 23rd September.

The injured party said the defendant's car had pulled out in front of her.

Defending, Jane Armstrong told the court her client, Gary Hall, was a 43-year-old single man who lived with his mother and worked in a bakery.

He believed the collision occurred due to his inability to apply the brakes because the carpet in the car caused a restriction.

He tried to avoid the collision by getting out of the way of the oncoming vehicle but the collision occurred.

He damaged his own car and caused minor damage to the other vehicle.

She submitted that Hall had been driving for 17 years and had a clean driving licence and had never been before the court before.

Mr Kennedy imposed a £250 fine and three penalty points.
