Fermanagh travelled to Armagh to take part in the Dick Craig cup and came back to Fermanagh with one loss and a draw for their travels. Although the results were disappointing assistant manager, Paul Cassidy preferred to talk about the positives.
"It is difficult at this stage of the year as we try to settle on the best 11 and the best shape to play. Certainly we did not start very well but improved as the competition went on and we will have to maintain that improvement as we prepare for the Milk Cup."
Cassidy confirmed that training was continuing at a pace and that the squad were due to play an ex Milk Cup select in a friendly tomorrow (Thursday) night.
"We have plenty of work to do over the coming weeks but hopefully we can find the right formula and the boys can gel together a bit better but that should come with time," Cassidy explained.
ARMAGH ................................... 2
FERMANAGH .............................. 1
Fermanagh began this game playing a defensive 4 - 1 - 4 - 1 formation and this completely nullified the Armagh attack. It also meant that Fermanagh found it very difficult to get anything going in front of goal and as a result the first half was played with very few chances being created.
At half time the Fermanagh management changed things around and played a more attacking formation with two strikers up front but this left some holes at the back and within a five minute spell at the start of the second half Armagh had rattled home to goals.
Fermanagh recovered from this double blow however and with substitute Christopher Lyons starting to create havoc on the wing they reduced the deficit when Kane Connor controlled a Lyons cross and finished well to the corner.
The remainder of the game was played out with neither side creating much in the way of chances with Armagh holding out for a probably just about deserved win.
TYRONE ..................................... 1
FERMANAGH .............................. 1
Playing on a bigger pitch and with a more attacking formation Fermanagh started this game brightly and had the ball in the net after only seven minutes with winger Christopher Lyons finding the top corner with a rasping shot from the edge of the box.
With Nickey Dunbar impressing up front and Lyons and Connor having plenty of joy down the wings Fermanagh looked threatening when they attacked. But the boys in green were to be caught by a sucker punch when a seemingly innocuous header in the midfield caught the back four square and the Tyrone striker raced in on goal to slot past Nathan Greene in the Fermanagh goal.
Both sides had chances to win the game but could not avail of them and in the second half the game got a little fragmented with tempers boiling over on a number of occasions.
