Enniskillen RFC's 2008 Touch competition reaches it climax this Friday night, 4th July, and it promises to be a keenly contested evening.
Leading the way are Fastbusters who are on top mainly due to the efforts of 'the ghost', Ritchie Finlay, and his younger brother Ashley, and despite the handicap of having Ritchie 'sore calf' Beatty in the side.
The Robbie Watson-led Babas, lie in second spot, not that Rob has had much influence having recovered from recent knee reconstruction! Have the club found the true 'soft lad'?
Stevie Welsh's All Stars are in third, and would have a chance of victory if they weren't carrying too many forwards, and when you have a prop wearing noticeable white boots (mentioning no names Guv) all mistakes are easily picked up!
The Sex Panthers, the dubiously named side fronted by former clubman Ritchie Grey, still have an outside chance, but points should be deducted for wearing probably the worst kit of the lot. Following the lime green shirts of last year, Ritchie has gone for a macho Aussie rules type shirt, but it just doesn't work.
The entry from Portora, El Nino, have shown glimpses of being a good side but inexperience rules them out of contention, and the two sides from within the club's own youth structure, Mighty Ducks and Jokers have fared reasonably well, but are well off the pace.
Veteran Kenny McKeown's Off Side has recruited heavily again from our near neighbours, Clogher Valley, but have been very average and do not look to have any chance, especially given Kenny's absence for finals night.
Finally, Alastair Key's 'Les Crocques' have been beaten by every one, in most part thanks to Ross 'four yellow cards a week' Duncan, who has failed to master the subtlety of 'touch'.
The night will be rounded off with a Pig on a Spit and entertainment in the bar.
If you are up for a good night's craic come along at 7:00 on Friday night.
PRE-SEASON TRAINING
Pre season training in preparation for the 2008-09 season commences on Tuesday 15th July at 7:30. This will be held under the keen eye of new club coach, Terry Finlay, and new captain Gary Hall.
The club would urge all players to report as the new season approaches, as fitness is the key to success in the modern rugby era.
An appeal is also made for anyone new to the game that wants to give it a go and get fit at the same time.
Everyone will be made more than welcome!
