Lisnafin device declared a hoax

A suspicious object discovered in the Lisnafin Park area shortly before 1pm on Tuesday was declared a hoax later that evening. After being alerted by a member of the public, Police cordoned off the area around the object, which was close to a group flats, while a small number of people were asked to leave their homes as a precaution. Many residents opted to remain in their homes but residents returning to the area were refused entry to their homes while tests were being carried out on the suspicious object. One...

Council defiant after massive waste fine

After been convicted of breaking waste laws, Strabane District Council has pointed the finger of accusation at the planning service and the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA). In a statement to the Strabane Chronicle the Council said it regretted that it has been fined a total of £20,500 plus £37 costs for eleven breaches of waste management legislation. Progress on and off the field

EXCITING times on the field are being matched by ambitious progress off it within Tyrone GAA circles at present. A feast of festival fun

The 21st Earagail Arts Festival takes place this month from July 4–19. A blank canvas for local artists

FIVE local artists have been given a blank canvas on which to exhibit their work. Friday night saw the launch of the North West Artist Gallery, situated within department store Linton and Robinson. But it truly is and the latest addition to the ever growing CD collection from local artists is again testament to it. Catriona 'Cat' McGinty hit the headlines in 2003 when she was picked to accompany Lifford's Mickey-Joe Harte on his journey to Latvia and the Eurovision Song Contest.
